Getting Started
Welcome
Welcome to my workshop on the Community of Inquiry (CoI). This site is oriented towards educators and has been developed as part of the instructional design in digital learning course at Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. Following please find some guidelines to help you navigate this workshop.
Workshop Overview
Do you wonder if your students are truly learning the core course concepts? By completing this workshop you will be able to use principles of the CoI framework to ensure that your students reflect on the material and communicate effectively with each other to reach deeper understanding. In this workshop we will discuss the the three key elements of the CoI model, including teaching presence, social presence, and cognitive presence and how they work together to ensure meaningful understanding in our students.
Workshop Schedule
This workshop provides a brief overview of the CoI model based on Randy Garrison's (2011) book on E-Learning in the 21st Century, followed by 3 videos in which I provide examples of how I use these principles in teaching pathology to residents and medical students. Mastery of the learning objectives will be tested with an assessment quiz at the end of the workshop.
Requirements for Workshop Completion
These are the skills you will need to master in order to complete this workshop:
- Analyze the content presented in the workshop using the learning objectives as a guide.
- Following your content review, submit your answers to the assessment quiz questions.
- To demonstrate content mastery you are expected to accurately answer at least 70% of the assessment questions.
